Welcome to VSCHDI

Welcome to the official website of the Victorian State Committee of Highland Dancing Inc (VSCHDI)

We are members of the Australian Board of Highland Dancing Inc (ABHDI) and are affiliated with the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (SOBHD), Edinburgh.

The SOBHD was formed in 1950 through a wish by the major Examining Bodies, Teachers and leading dancers in the UK to have a uniform quality standard for all areas of Highland Dancing.

Since then the SOBHD has gained in stature and status through its acceptance by the majority of highland dancing Associations and Games organisers, not only in Scotland, but also around the world.

The SOBHD was introduced in Victoria in 1954 by Mrs Tassie Green, who was also actively involved in the formation of the VSCHDI. Mrs Green was a well known, respected and accomplished Teacher and Adjudicator who continued to take a keen interest in all aspects of highland dancing and the VSCHDI even after her retirement.

Whilst Mrs Green sadly passed away in April 2008, the commitment she gave to highland dancing, particularly in Victoria, will be remembered in the ‘Tassie Green Award’. This award is presented to members of the VSCHDI in recognition of their outstanding contribution to highland dance in Victoria.

In Victoria we focus on being represented at Highland Gatherings, Shows and Eisteddfods in addition to conducting local Competitions, Championships and other Scottish events. Our Display Team are also invited to perform at various functions throughout the year, everything from Celtic Festivals to the Chinese New Year.

Our Dancers, Teachers and Judges are committed to the perfection of the art of Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing in Victoria and it is pleasing to see our dancers competing successfully throughout Australia and overseas.
